Annually around December 10, Amnesty International M’sia celebrates the International Human Rights Day with its Solidarity and Mass Action Event: The Letter Writing Marathon. The Letter Writing Marathon is Amnesty’s Global Initiative to mobilize the public to speak on various human rights cases everywhere in form of personal letters and foster international solidarity to end human rights violation beyond ones own country.

Amnesty International Malaysia celebrates the International Human Rights Day with its Solidarity and Mass Action Initiative: the Letter Writing Marathon.

Sending letters is one of the most effective ways for individuals to communicate their concerns to people responsible for violating human rights and to those in positions to influence their actions. This year, Amnesty International Malaysia will be organizing the Letter Writing Marathon and Human Rights Day Celebration on the 12th & 13th of December 2009.

The theme of the Convention, “The Business of Batik”, is intentionally wide, allowing for participation from anyone related to the batik craft and industry including the wider areas of textiles and textile production, fashion and marketing, new technology, new trends in textile decoration, new applications as well as batik art history and craft & heritage preservation.

Look forward to the ‘The Business of Batik’ Convention (Dec 11-12) that will bring speakers and experts from around the world to KL to share their knowledge and expertise. There will also be Piala Seri Endon batik design competition which will provide a platform for Malaysia’s batik making talents to show their stuff. The Grand Finale will be held on Dec 13.

Kuala Lumpur will once again play host to one of the most prestigious international marching band competitions in the South East Asian region as it has done so for a number of years.

This year, the event will be held from Dec 12 – 20 2009 at the Stadium Bola Sepak Kuala lumpur, Cheras (KL Football Stadium, Cheras).

More than 20 marching bands from North America, Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Far East are expected to converge in Kuala Lumpur.

The KLWMBC is part of an international circuit of marching band competitions sanctioned by the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB).

Since the last General Election, Malaysians have been treated to so many visions, dreams, and hopes for new Malaysia(s), yet how much has really changed? With so many ‘surprises’ that each new day brings, how do we keep sane? How do we stay safe? How do we respond to these events?

Billed as the biggest art exhibition in the country, it is organised by Art Expo Malaysia Sdn Bhd and National Art Gallery of Malaysia. The latest and best creations of artists from overseas and Malaysia will be displayed under one roof, such as it was in 2008.

Seventeen Malaysian art galleries are taking part in the expo. These include RA Fine Arts, City Art Gallery, Pelita Hati House of Art, Annexe Gallery and House of Mata Hati. Fourteen countries including Hungary, China, India, Japan, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, Canada, France, Portugal, are represented through the respective art galleries at the expo.

An official 344-page commemorative catalogue, which is expected to be a collector’s item, will be among the expo’s key attractions.

The expo is held under the royal patronage of Tuanku Raja Puan Muda Perlis Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

The 3-day event hopes to raise awareness on the importance of good health practices among Malaysians. Apart from booths offering various products and services, there will be numerous health talks on various subjects such as yoga, dental health, kidney care and cancer awareness. Health food cooking demonstrations and a colouring contest for children will also be conducted. In addition to that free health check-ups are on the agenda as well.

The fair will feature 100 booths with more than 80 local and foreign exhibitors showcasing a wide range of health-care products and services, including organic green food, tea culture and recreation, beauty care, medical care, health equipment, children’s health education and medical services, to enable visitors to gain an insight into the latest health-care and environmental protection trends and concepts, both in Malaysia and abroad.

Considering Curve’s towering monolith of guitar noise, dance tracks, dark goth, and airy melodies, it’s strange that their two core members, guitarist Dean Garcia and vocalist Toni Halliday – met through David Stewart of Eurythmics. Halliday met Stewart while she was a teenager and they remained friends for years; Garcia played on Eurythmics’ Touch and Be Yourself Tonight. The two played together in State of Play, who released one album and two singles in the late ’80s to little notice.

Although they were critically acclaimed as well, some members of the U.K. press attacked Halliday for not being a genuine member of the indie scene. Despite the negative press, their next EP and first album, 1992’s Doppelganger, hit number one on the U.K. indie charts. Here we have one of their most recent music videos entitled “Horror Head”, where lead vocalist Toni Halliday struts her stuff big time!

Innocent Ujah Idibia (born in Jos, Plateau State) best known as Tuface Idibia is a Nigerian hip hop musician and songwriter. His major breakthrough in the IMT was composing and singing the jingles in the famous radio show GB Fan Club in Enugu State Broadcasting Services (ESBS) in 1996. He then relocated to Lagos and joined up with his ex-IMT mate BlackFace to form Plantashun Boyz.

He started calling himself “2Face” in 1996. “The name to me just refers to the outside and inside: when you first see me you see the outside but when you get to know me, you see the inside” he said in an interview with the BBC.

His award winning hit track African Queen was used as the sound track of the 2006 comedy film, Phat Girlz.
