The match was a real marathon of about 4 hours finishing well after midnight. World number 1 women player, Ga Young Kim also lost, beaten 8-9 by fellow Korean Lin Yum Mi. Ga Young now crosses to the loser’s side and will play Allison’s victor Marika Poikkiokki tomorrow in a sudden death match. Liu Sha Sha, Jasmin Ouschan and Yu Ram Cha all had comfortable wins and advanced to the next round.
In the men’s draw, reigning World 8-Ball Champion, Dennis Orcollo was forced to dig deep after trailing 1-5 to defeat fellow Filipino Allan Cuarterro 9-7. Darren Appleton, Ralf Souquet, Marcus Chamat and Thorsten Hohmann kept Europe’s hopes alive with convincing wins in their matches. Two Canadians remain in the event, Jason Klatt still in the winner’s side, and John Morra in the loser’s side.
Of course there are still plenty of Asian players remaining in the tournament, and all very strong competitors. Ronnie Alcano lost his match yesterday and has now crossed to the loser’s side.
Plenty of great matches are scheduled for tomorrow, day 3 when the action kicks off at midday at the SM Mega Mall in Manila.
