Great Britain’s Kelly Fisher cemented her status as the premier player in women’s professional pool, as she captured the prestigious Amway eSpring Women’s World 9-ball, with an 11-8 win over Austria’s Jasmin Oushcan in the final in Taipei, Taiwan.
Fisher, the World Pool-Billiard Association(WPA) Player of the Year in 2012, has now won three major events in the Far East in the last 9 months. Before capturing the Amway title, she won the 2012 Women’s World 9-ball Championship in Shenyang, China and the 2012 China Open Championship in Shanghai.
Fisher has started off 2013 where she left off last year, with an impressive undefeated run through the field in Taiwan. Fisher cruised through her initial group of players with a 4-0 record, winning 28 of 35 total games. That record earned her the #1 position in her group and a first round bye in the single elimination stages of the event.
In the single elimination stage, Fisher had wins over Chihiro Kawahara, Xiao Ting Pan, Chieh Yu Chou and then Jasmin Ouschan in the finals.
This was Ouschan’s second Amway Cup final match in two years running, but once again the feisty Austrian failed to take the top spot. In 2012 she lost to Taiwan’s Chieh-Yu Chou in the final.
This is the 13th year for the Amway eSpring Women’s World 9 Ball Open and it’s no exaggeration to say it’s one of the major competition highlights on the women’s world pool calendar.
Fisher pocketed $34,000, while Ouschan settled for $13,000. Taiwan’s Chieh-Yu Chou and Penny Tsai each took home $6000 for third place.
